We’ve been working with Kimaya Diggs for years, doing repairs and mods to some awesome Silvertone’s and her trusty Recording King acoustic, so it’s wonderful to finally see her leave the shop with her new Healer today. The smaller, light weight body is the perfect fit for her, and the color, well that’s damn perfect too. The swatch is called “loveable”, something close to shell pink but a bit brighter. Kimaya borrowed another Healer in early 2021 and loved the roasted maple neck so we did the same style for her own guitar.
I mentioned the other day that this guitar also has our first in-house made pickups. Ohad started winding pickups in 2020 and these are the first one’s that we have collaborated on. I’ve been using a rock tumbler to age hardware and I did that with the open top P-90 rings we used here. I also found some fine metal mesh in a free pile on the second floor of @eastworks_ma and Ohad used that material here as the foil. The pickups are Alnico 5 slugs with 42 gauge plain enamel wire and a brass baseplate. They sound a bit like a thickened up Strat pickups to my ears, with a nice bite too. It’s really awesome to be trying something new and utilizing the talents of folks I have working with me.
