I’ve been making the Healer model since 2009. I kept the second one for about 2 years and then sold it to one of the coolest people ever @nextstep_music … 11 years later I have my own again and it’s been brewing for years. I wanted it to be an homage to my favorite Gibson mandolins and mandocello’s with black tops, stained backs and tortoise guard. I’ve also been using low tunings my entire guitar playing life and wanted to find a good scale length to play in D and C standard. With 12-56 strings D standard feels perfect and has a great tension to it for very piano like tone and fullness. The 26.5” scale length doesn’t feel too long either but gives it another whole vibe entirely. I used vintage parts for the pickups(DeArmond Dynasonics, made for Martin), tuners, knobs and tailpiece. It’s made with Spanish cedar and has a spruce top. The headcap and fretboard are from the reclaimed Brazilian board found by @suitcasejunket. All this wood is very old. I left the finish thin to give it a worn in feel like the Gibson stuff. Total weight is 5.75 lbs. Last but not least, I had @stromermutroniks make me an on board tremolo with a single knob to control the speed and a single rocker switch to turn it on and off. It’s freaking perfect and weird.
